Children Need to Play, Not Compete

From Statsky’s argument, I understand that sports are very good for health of children, but the competition sports will cause the both physically and psychologically harm for children. For young kids, the competition sports will influence them that they cannot grow up healthy.
I agree with the viewpoint of the author Statsky “when children sense that their competence and worth are based on their ability to live up their parent’ and coaches’ high expectations- and on their ability to win” because I think almost all Chinese children has the childhood like this this. Chinese parents always think their children should be the best in all areas in campus, so they require their kids to be foremost student in their class or even in their grade. But there is only one top student in one class or grade, so other children cannot reach the goal that their parents want them to get. How can they encourage their children to be better? There are two kinds of parents. One is comforting and encouraging their children, another is hitting their children to make them understand what mistakes that they made. So too many children in China are always unhappy, discouraged and depressed. What is the reason caused the situation like this? I think the reason is the competition among all Chinese kids. Because of this reason, too many children suffer the deeply stress from their schools. In my opinion, competition is very good for humans to develop. But for young kids, that is cruel and harmful for their growing. Parents’ overzealous demonstrate is a serious problem too. Children should have enough time to do things what they want to do. They are free and should own some secrets because everyone have right of privacy.
I agree with that coaches and parents impose the desire to win on children because they always believe that their kids can finish the achievements that coaches and parents can finish. They always hope their children will be better than them, but they have not thought too much about the fact that their kids have not the same body ability and social experience as themselves. I do not think the author have provided enough evidences to support her viewpoint because she has not offered what benefits that the team sports can take to kids. I disagree with the idea “should those who organize children’s sports have an obligation to include all children who want to participate” because different children have not the same abilities, we cannot train them in the same plan. Finding the unique training way for each child is better for children’ health.

Put a Little Science in Your Life

The main point of the reading is to confirm the useful of science in persons’ lives and suggest people to put the science in their lives. This article shows that it is much more convenient and efficiency for humans to do lots of things with science.
For the viewpoint “in teaching our students, we continually fail to activate rich opportunities for revealing the breathtaking vistas opened up by science, and instead focus on the need to gain competency with science’s underlying technical details” of author, I was surprising when I read it. There are too many scientists only want to research more and get more researching results to enrich their achievements. They have not cared about the details of their researching results and how this research can improve humans’ lives. This problem causes some experts considered the benefits of their results after few years later. If they can find the benefits and provide the sources, processes and results of their research early, there are too many things that would change in the past. For teaching students, the teachers always only want students to know the knowledge in the class and then get the nice grade in their tests and exams. Almost the majority of teachers have not taught to students how they can use these knowledge in their common lives. For example, in the Indian movie three idiots. When the higher grade students bully the freshman, although they have learnt the knowledge that taught by their teachers and professors, they have still not thought a way to resist higher grade students. Only the protagonist uses the plain electronic tool that made by himself to resist the higher students when they are peeing on his door. If their teachers taught them how to use the science into their lives, maybe they have resisted before many years ago. The author uses the letter to attract readers and make the essay become more interesting because readers would think about why the soldier wrote this letter and sent to the author to make him get an idea about writing this essay. And the letter can also let us understand the science is powerful in our common lives.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: A Hell of a Ride

In my opinion, the author William Akana who analyzed inventive special effects, clever dialogue, and artistic cinematography and editing of this movie to support her viewpoint of the essay. She also used other writers’ researching report for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World to clarify more details and examples to support her ideas.

Although this film is for old-school gamers, anime fans, and comic book fanatics, the attractive and neoteric elements can also make other audience go to cinema or buy the DVD for watching. Everyone have the curiosity that is an important ability of humans’ society. They can be attracted by some things that they have not seen or known before. So this film, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World used the inventive special effects, clever dialogue, and artistic cinematography and editing to create the new sources that audience never seen before. According to these different details and ideas, this movie can attract other kinds of audience. Although I have not seen this film, I can get the enough information about this film from the writer’s assignment. It is fascinating that the writer found other famous persons’ opinions about this film to create some arguments and used more evidences to help herself to support her perspectives.

From my perspective, Akana’s argument that the film’s special effects “can be appreciated and enjoyed by all audiences” is not convincing. For different people, they have different beliefs and values about the world. Maybe some people who are not old-school gamers, anime fans, and comic book fanatics can accept the interesting and neoteric elements and even been in love with the film so much by these elements. But for some people who want to watch a serious and magnificent movie, this film is not a good choice for them. So I think it is not convincing that this movie can be appreciated and enjoyed by all audiences. Another film I have seen that uses special effects is Hobbit. I even think all the stuffs who worked for this film are brilliant. They created a perfect world for audience. They built the special language system, history and background to create a new world. They also found the best actors to make the stories of this world become more real. For these two movies, the stuffs used the special basics and attractive elements to make audiences love their films. But Hobbit have the more comprehensive world system of the film than Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. This reason also made the Hobbit can be famous and popular in the world. So I believe that if the stuffs who created a film wanted to make all audience to accept it, the first thing they need to do is make the film be perfect as possible as they can.
